3G– Third-generation mobile communication system. Generic name for mobile network/ service based on the IMT-2000 family of global standard that allows for faster download speeds than 1G and 2G (World Bank).

Android-  Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications that will be open source. (Google Android Site).

Google- A California-based public corporation specializing in online searches and advertising (Dot Traffic).

HTC Dream– is an internet-enabled smartphone. The HTC Dream will be the first phone to the market that will use the Android mobile device platform (Wikipedia) .

iPhone– The Apple iPhone is an internet connected multimedia smartphone with a flush multitouch screen and a minimal hardware interface (Wikipedia) .

Linux– A widely used OPEN SOURCE UNIX like operating system. The inner workings of LINUX are open and available to anyone to examine and change as long as they make their changes available to the public. (Grey Fox Webterms)

Mobile operating system- also known as a Mobile platform, or a Handheld operating system, is the operating system that controls a mobile device—similar in principle to an operating system such as Linux or Windows that controls a desktop computer. However, they are currently somewhat simpler, and deal more with the wireless versions of broadband and local connectivity, mobile multimedia formats, and different input methods (Wikipedia).

Open Hands Alliance–  a business alliance of Google, HTC, Intel, Motorola, Qualcom, Samsung, LG, T-Mobile, NVidia, and Wind Riversystems to develop open standards for mobile devices (Wikipedia).

Open Source– A movement in the programming community for making source code (program instructions) free and freely available to anyone interested in using or working with it (Microsoft) .

Operating System– A series of computer programs which control the operation of the computer itself. Examples of operating systems include MS Windows 95, MS Windows NT, UNIX, VMS, DOS and OS/2 (Digimap Glossary).

T-Mobile– s a mobile network operator headquartered in Bonn, Germany (Wikipedia).
