With the forthcoming release of the HTC Dream mobile phone that will run on Google’s Android mobile operating system, T-Mobile has increased it’s 3G coverage.
Currently T-Mobile supports 3G data speeds in Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, New York (including northern New Jersey and Long Island), Phoenix, Portland, San Antonio and San Diego.
The following cities can expect 3G coverage next month: Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Francisco and Seattle.
T-Mobile has said they plan to increase their 3G coverage into 2009, but that by the end of 2008 Birmingham, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Memphis and Tampa should have 3G as well.
T-Mobile and Google will be formally announcing the HTC Dream next week; as of right now, we do not know if the mobile phone will have 3G capabilities. It would now seem that this is 99% likely. If the phone is to compete with the iPhone effectively, it most certainly will need 3G data speeds.
